First Test Game!

My first test game against Evan, Tuesday the 21st, versus his bugs.

His list, from memory.
2x Tervigons w/ Catalyst (1 troop, 1 HQ)
3x Hive Guard
5x Warriors w/ Devourers/Barbed Strangler
10x Termagants
3x Carnifexes w/ TL Devourers
2x Trygon Primes

We played one of the Adepticon 40k scenarios that was run at Gamers Haven this last March in practice for the upcoming Gamers Haven tourney this October. It was a modified Dawn of War deployment (anywhere 6" from the table center), with a random primary condition that we would discover on the top of turn 4 (Control center, control terrain elements, or table quarters). Secondary was VPs, Tertiary was Eliminate Enemy HQs.

I moved up too aggressively, not taking advantage of my range. I lost my Thundercav to concentrated shooting from the Carnifexes, and over the course of the game failed to kill key elements of Evan's bugs. Trygons were ultimately successful in taking down my back field firepower. Thunderwolves would have been more useful in countering the Trygons and applying pressure to monstrous creatures like the Tervigon, rather than mixing it up with Gargoyles and Termagants.

Lessons learned: Utilize my range advantage. Use stormbolters to open a hole for assault units to move through. Don't use Thunderwolves as a shield, use them as a hammer in mid-late game. I don't have any other fast elements to assist them if I rush in too fast.

Logan's Great Company, redux

I'm trying my damnedest to fit my Thunderwolf Cavalry into my army, and it took sacrificing the all terminator look. Five squads of wolf guard, one of which is ten men strong. The Thunderwolves and 20 Wolf Guard march forward, while while the two rearguard Wolfguard squads (the two five man squads with a single terminator in them) sit back with the Long Fangs and protect my mid and back field objectives.

I have a total of 16 missiles a turn, spread among 6 different units so I can divide my fire. I tried to maintain both the shooting and melee capability of the forward Wolf Guard units. My previous Thunderwolf Cavalry builds had problems cracking transports so the TWC could eat the insides; I hope this list will not have the same problems.
